土星南極に白い目…高温部、といっても

【ワシントン＝笹沢教一】米航空宇宙局（ＮＡＳＡ）は、ハワイのケック天文台が赤外線観測で撮影した土星の画像を４日付の米科学誌サイエンスに発表した。南極付近が白色の“目”のように見える。
目は、特に温度が高い部分を示し、零下約１８０度くらい。暗い色の部分に比べて１０度前後高い。夏の時期に土星の南部の温度が上昇することは、ある程度予測されていたが、わずかな緯度の違いでこれほど急激な温度差を生じることはわかっていなかった。
ＮＡＳＡの観測チームは、土星の大気中に限定的な高温部を作り出す特殊な対流などの仕組みがあると見て、さらに分析を進める。

This wavelength is sensitive to temperatures in Saturn's upper troposphere. Warming of ring particles can be seen as they emerge from Saturn's shadow (at the 8 o'clock position)
